What are the different types of print used for corrugated packaging?
The Box Factory uses three main types of print used for corrugated packaging:
Flexo printing is a very common and cost-effective printing method for corrugated packaging. It requires a printing stereo for each colour on the box and can be printed at very high manufacturing speeds. It can be done at the same time as other manufacturing processes, such as cutting and gluing, making it very efficient for high volumes.
Digital printing predominantly uses the classic CMYK inks to produce a high quality printing method. This is a slower process than flexo however more can be achieved on the print. This is done separately from other packaging operations and the print is applied directly to the corrugated material. It is usually best for small quantities.
Litho Lam is the process of applying the print to the outer paper and then laminating that paper to the corrugated sheet. It provides the highest quality print for corrugated packaging as its not printing directly to the board and has very fine printing tolerances. This process also requires tooling.
The best type of print for you will depend on your specific needs, such as the quantity of packaging you need, the quality of print you require, and your budget.
